When it comes to working from home, not all jobs are equal, that's for sure! Some types of home based jobs are sit-behind-the-desk, answer phones, work on the computer etc. But the truth of the matter is that most of these jobs are remote jobs from the corporate office. Employers often times allow employees to work remotely a few times a week. There are a select few who rarely visit the office because the office is somewhere across the country.
But in the realm of true home based business jobs, there are few that allow you to stay at home 100% of the time. Most require you to attend motivational meetings, create parties outside of your home hoping your good friend invites a ton of people. They also need you to meet with people outside of your home and to show them the business so your business will grow.
Again, the truth is, the moniker of "Home Based Business" gets stretched pretty far. It's home based all right, about as much as your home is your base for your normal 40 hour/week job.
Home Based Business Jobs- Are There Really Any Out There?
Emphatically Yes! You do have to consider what you need to conduct most of your business at home. That's what you want to do right? Let's start with the basics.
1. You need a phone. Clearly you have to communicate with your prospective customer. And no, texting is not the "business standard" for communication. Cell phones are fine, but I would suggest guarding your cell phone or private home phone number from the public. Use Google voice or another free provider. You get a free number assigned that you can port (direct) to your cell phone or home office phone.
With speakers and a microphone, you don't need a "real" phone. Other options include magicJack. I have used this device successfully for years. And Sprint has recently introduced a portable land line, Sprint Phone Connect 2, that is an inexpensive alternative.
2. Computer. I have to say that I am old school and prefer a keyboard. iPads are great, but the on-screen keyboards are not conducive to fast typing. Of course you can get a plug-in keyboard; those work fine. Now I don't care how many gigs, or rams or nano-seconds your computer is. It just needs to work efficiently.
3. Software. At the least you need a word processing software, that is, software you can use to write letters. There are even free versions available for download.
4. Printer. Yes you will need to print, copy and perhaps fax documents.
5. Internet. Most importantly, you will need to have Internet access.
